Know About the History of Ramadan!

“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran; a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, a number of other days. Allah desires for you ease; He desires not the hardship for you; and that you should complete the period, and that you should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that perhaps you may be thankful.” – Quran, Chapter 2, Verse 185

There is a belief in the Islamic world that during the holy month of Ramadan, the Quran was introduced to the Prophet Muhammad for the first time. The initial revelation of Quran was sent on Laylat al-Qadar (one of the five nights of the last ten days of the month of Ramadan). During Ramadan, all the sacred scriptures were sent, according to hadith.

Fasting, as per the Quran, was considered compulsory for prior countries. It is a way of achieving taqwa (the fear of God). It is believed that the God declared to the Prophet Muhammad that fasting is a responsibility for those who are truly devoted to the oneness of the God. The Mecca pagans also fasted on the tenth day of Muharram in order to make up for the sins and to avoid droughts.
