Celebrate The Essence of Ramadan with Some Special and Most Delicious Recipes

So, here is the Ramadan Recipes for the holy month of the Muslim calendar- Ramadan. Muslims all over the world are celebrating the season of Ramadan by engaging in the act of fasting, popularly known as Roza. The basic purpose of Roza during the month of Ramadan is to inculcate the sense of self-control in oneself.

During Ramadan, Muslims in various parts of the world start their day with a meal which is known as Sheri. Then after the sun rises, a strict fast is followed until the sunset. Once the evening prayer is accomplished, the fast is broken followed by the most delicious feast known as Iftar.

In literal sense, the Iftar is a celebration of good food which involves some of the well-known mouth-watering delicacies. From delicious meat curries to tempting desserts and refreshing drinks known as sherbets, the traditional Iftar menu is a spectacular treat to one’s taste buds. In case, you love cooking and are looking forward to preparing traditional Iftar delicacies at home, here are some of the most special and famous Ramadan recipes combined for you:

Recipe for Chicken Changezi

Required ingredients:

Chicken, milk, tomatoes, onions, double cream, yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, chaat masala powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder, salt, dry fenugreek leaves, cashew nuts, fresh coriander, oil, and ghee.

Method to prepare:

The very first step involves marinating the chicken with some salt, red chili powder, ginger-garlic paste and lemon juice. Mix well and keep in the refrigerator for an hour. Then, add yogurt in the chicken and mix well.

Now, add the chicken in a pot and cook it on high flame until all the liquid dries. Keep it aside.

Heat some oil in a pan and fry the onions, cashew nuts till they turn light golden. Now, remove the onions and cashew nuts from the oil and grind them together into a smooth paste adding either milk or water just to grind.

Now, heat some ghee in a pot and add ginger-garlic paste. Fry for about 1-2 minutes and then add tomato paste, garam masala, coriander powder mix, and milk. Cook for about 5 minutes on a medium flame. Then, add some cream, grind paste of onions and cashew nuts, chaat masala and mix well. Cook on medium flame until the ghee comes on the surface.

Finally, add the chicken which was kept aside. Also add green chili, fenugreek leaves, some water and cook on medium flame for some time. Now, add some fresh coriander and serve hot with naan.


Recipe for Chicken Pastilla

Required ingredients:

Chicken thigh, garlic, salt, lemons, onion, saffron, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, unsalted butter, almonds, icing sugar, coriander leaves, eggs, filo pastry, and parsley.


Method to prepare:

Firstly wash the chicken thighs properly. Now, mix the crushed garlic with some salt and some lemon juice and make a paste. Rub the chicken thighs with this paste and place it in a bowl. Marinate it by keeping in the refrigerator for an hour. Now, take out a casserole dish and place the chicken thighs in it with some onion. Add saffron, black pepper, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, a pinch of salt, butter and some water. Bring it to a boil and then lower the heat. Cover it and simmer for an hour.

Next step is to take out a food processor and put some toasted almonds into it. Pulse them until ground. Combine this ground almonds with some icing sugar and some ground cinnamon and set it aside.

Now remove the chicken from the casserole dish by straining the liquid. Place the liquid which is strained into the casserole dish with some parsley and coriander. Bring this liquor to the boil and let it reduce into a sauce. Also, add some lemon juice into it.

Beat some eggs in a large bowl until frothy. Pour the beaten eggs into the sauce by continuously stirring it until the eggs cook. Use two forks to shred the chicken into small pieces. Preheat the oven to 220°C.

Now, fold four filo pastries in half and place them on a baking sheet. Bake in the oven for around 30 seconds. Brush some butter over the bottom and sides of a cake tin and cover the bottom with two filo pastries. Arrange six more pastries so as they cover the bottom of the tin entirely.  Place the shredded chicken on the pastry covering entirely in a layer. Add over this the egg mixture and the flour baked pastries. Sprinkle some almond-sugar mixture over the pastry.

Fold the overlapping pastries in over the top in order to cover the pie. Brush with slight butter. Now put the remaining two pastries over the top, buttering them and tucking the overlap down the sides of the pie. Again brush the entire pie with butter and bake it in the oven for about 20 minutes, till the pastry turns golden brown. Loosen the pie by shaking the pan and running a spatula around the edges. Invert the pie onto a large serving plate.

Burnt Garlic and Mint Chutney

Required ingredients:

Garlic cloves, fresh mint, oil, black salt, ginger, green chilies, yogurt, lemon juice and salt

Take a pan and heat some oil in it. Add to it some cloves of garlic and sprinkle some black salt. Sauté it until browned.

Now grind some fresh mint, green chilies, ginger, sautéed garlic and some water to make a fine paste. Add this paste to yogurt and mix it well. Add some lemon juice and salt and mix it again. Serve this smooth chutney chilled.

Kai Pathiri:

Kai Pathiri

Easy to make, this is a traditional Kerala dish which is enjoyed by the Muslims residing in Kerala. Generally, it is consumed during the breakfast hour in the month of Ramadan.

Required ingredients:

Roasted rice powder, grated coconut, shallots, cumin seeds, coconut milk, water and salt.

Method to prepare:

Grind together coconut, shallots and cumin seeds. Keep this aside.

Now boil some amount of water with salt. Add to this rice flour and coconut mix. Stir this well on a low flame for 2 minutes. Now, cover the pot and let it stay for about 10 minutes.

Make a smooth dough of rice mixture and coconut. Now, using some rice flour, make small size balls of the dough and roll it into thin, round shape. Take out a thick, flat-bottom pan and roast the pathiri on it.

Now, soak the cooked pathiris in some coconut milk in order to make it soft and to enhance its taste.

Drinks play a crucial role during fasts. A glass of refreshing and chilled drink during the Iftaar time gives a great boost to the energy levels. So, here is a simple recipe for a popular drink which is not only refreshing but comforting as well.

Recipe for Roohafza Milkshake

Roohafza Milkshake

Required ingredients:

Roohafza, milk, sugar, crushed nuts (almonds and pistachios) and few ice cubes.

Method to prepare:

Add milk, roohafza, and some ice cubes in a blender and blend for two minutes. Pour it into serving glasses and garnish nicely with crushed almonds and pistachios. Serve chilled.

Ramadan Dessert Recipes:

  • Recipe for Shahi Tukda

Required ingredients:

Bread, milk, sugar, water, ghee, cardamom powder, saffron, chopped nuts and dates syrup.

Method to prepare:

Boil the milk in a pan for about 45mins on a medium flame. Stir often until the milk reduces to almost one-fourth of its initial volume. Now, this thick condensed milk which you got is known as Rabdi. Add some sugar, saffron and cardamom powder to this and keep it aside.

Now boil some water with sugar for few minutes in order to make sugar syrup.

Cut the bread slices into different interesting shapes using a cookie cutter. Fry these bread slices in ghee in a frying pan till golden brown. Now soak these fried slices of bread in the sugar syrup for about 40 seconds.

Take a plate and arrange these sugar soaked slices of bread. Pour some rabdi on top of these and garnish with some chopped nuts and dates syrup. You have the option to either serve this hot or even chilled as per taste.


  • Recipe for Meethi Seviyan

Required ingredients:

Vermicelli, milk, sugar, ghee, saffron, cardamom, chopped nuts, salt, orange food colour, and water.

Method to prepare:

Take a pan and heat some ghee in it. Fry some chopped nuts in it until golden brown. Remove them and keep aside.

Now add vermicelli in the same pan and roast on medium flame until golden brown. Add warm milk with the saffron strands and bring it to boil. You can also add some food colour at this stage. Now cover and cook on a low flame till all the moisture is absorbed. Keep in mind that the texture of the final product will be good only when the vermicelli is cooked soft and there is little moisture left while adding the sugar.

Add some sugar as per taste, a pinch of salt and crushed cardamom. Continue cooking till it thickens without the lid. Finally, add some ghee and roasted nuts on top. Mix once and serve sweet vermicelli.
